I signed a two year contract with Comcast just over a year ago for both cable tv and internet.
I knew the price would be going up after the first year, that was never a problem as it was all spelled out. At that time I asked the CSR if that price would ever go up above that amount as I was I was pretty much at the end of what I could afford. She said NO that it was a binding agreement.
My bill this month showed a $4.32 increase so I called the billing number for Comcast. I got some person in a foreign country who I couldn't understand and didn't have a clue what I was talking about.
Went online and found they started billing for the 2 DC50X boxes that up until now had no charges.
One of those units I use very little so disconnected it and returned it to the local office this morning.
I told the CSR that I had a contract and was told that the price would never go up during that time. His reply was that contracts only apply to services and not hardware. I then asked him, does that mean Comcast could double the price of cables boxes, leased modems etc. He said yes even if you do have a contract.
So I guess the way it works is Comcast can break a contract and charge more than was agreed to in the beginning and go merrily on their way, but if I try to back out of the contract because Comcast didn't honor their end, I would have to pay X number of $ in penalties for not honoring my end.
It's not the $4.32 that bothers me the most, but something here doesn't seem right and when my contract is up I will be looking at different options.
