On 9/11 my family sat down to watch a movie. We turned on our cable box then our tv. Two puffs of smoke poured out of the cable box. Everything shut off(tv and cable box) I had surge protected power strip that everything was plugged into. Nothing else turned off or melted down.We had no power surge, or lightening strikes. We unplugged everything rebooted, cable box lights turned back on but the two month old tv will not turn on. Called comcast made a damage report. I was told someone would call me in 48-72 hours. NO ONE CALLED. I called, they said they were waiting for a field investigator to get in touch with us. Should be a couple more days. 2 days go by and NO ONE CALLS. So I 9/17 I call again, get told the same thing. At this point I get in touch with the Better Business Bureau. On 9/22 I finally get a call from the executive department of complaints from the HQ Comcast on the east coast. Lady tells me when it gets to them it's gone too far. She would be sending a email and some one would call me right away. Well that's when Mark called, what can we do to make this right? How about a credit on your account and we come out and take a look at the equipment. I'm like ok. He comes over smells the cable box, looks at the plug ins and cord. He brought no type of electrical equipment to test anything. I then showed him the receipt for the tv, 431.82. He then mentioned the credit for the service since it has been non functioning. He said I have to turn this in, I'll call you on Wednesday. He calls, and states that since the claim is over 500.00 it has to be sent to there insurance company Liberty Mutual. They should be in touch in 24 hours. In 48 hours they called and asked me to fax them a copy of my receipt. I did. Today on 10/9 I get a call from then asking me to call back. I call back, I can't reach the lady. I call the next day, still can't reach the lady, finally wait for someone else to help me, I give them my claim number. The lady proceeds to tell me that my claim was denied, since there was no proof of damage. Im like the proof is sitting in my living room. She is like the box works fine, its grounded properly, it must be your wiring. 15 years of watching cable in my house and never a problem. No problem paying a 260.00 a month bill. The one time something goes wrong, it's some how our fault. And of course it had to happen after we bought a brand new fancy smart tv. How dumb is that???
