I was messing around today and I plugged in my Tivo Premiere I had sitting in a closet. I was planning on returning my DTA and my standard receiver and then install a cable card.
just for shits and giggles i hooked it up without a cable card to see what would happen. I know about a year ago they encrypted all clearqam channels so when i was doing a channel scan i wasnt expecting to get any channels.. but this came up..
now i didn't let it get to the full 100% because it was taken a long time, but i did let it get to over 300 before i cancelled.. after i cancelled it i input a channel i knew that existed and i get a Tivo error saying nothing can be displayed due to no cable card.
so i figured that tivo was able to see that the channels existed but couldn't do anything with it??
after a bit of research i stumbled onto this article.

it still beats the hell out of me why i got over 300 channels found, in the past when i would do a channel scan it would stay at 0.. after running a full scan the 2nd time i got 502 channels found, which is about double what i am subscribed to..
