Swapped my RNG200 Cisco DVR yesterday for a new X1 DVR. and i'm finding the CONSTANT fan noise very annoying. It wouldn't be so bad if it was only present with the TV on, and it would be mixed into the background noise.. But its highly noticeable when the tv (and supposedly the box in standby) The only way to shut the thing up and make it silent is to pull the plug on the device. Its noisier than my PC.

I'm actually quite suprised there's not more about this on the net. I was wondering what the repercussions would be for modding this box, and perhaps putting in a silent fan or removing it altogether.
I've got a feeling that if i swap it, i'll only get more of the same.. Though there are some reports of people saying mine is silent, i think there are people are oblivious to fan noise.
I only watch TV for a small percentage of my time spent in my living room, so to have to put up with a constant fan noise is simply unacceptable. It's coming in at 50db using SPL Meter on my iPhone next to it. and about 45db from my seating position.
My other complaint is that the remote feels a little sluggish, and that it doesnt allow for a remote IR connection, and my coffee table seems to block the signal.
I do MUCH prefer the graphical interface and XOD ability to fast forward more than x2 speed. That made onDemand almost unusable on my previous RNG200 DVR. if you ever had to pause or return to a scene, you'd have to sit there for upto 45min holding fast forward.. WTF ?
