I was hoping that someone in the Chicago Suburbs could help out. My 75 year old mother has Comcast with a Tivo/cable card DVR in Lombard. For several months now she has not been able to get closed captioning on WTTW HD (191?). She receives captioning on all of her other channels. I have checked the settings on the Tivo and everything looks correct.
From her numerous calls to Comcast, she has gotten answers all over the board. It has gone from being a known issue with WTTW, to it's her TiVo's fault, to she needs to pick up a new HD cable box (which with a TiVo she does not have).
If anyone out there with a cable card TiVo check captioning on their WTTW feed and reply I would greatly appreciate it. I believe it is an issue with the head end signal not coming over correctly to cable cards, but can't verify anything.
I am not a Comcast customer so I am not familiar with the best way to escalate an issue. I would bet that she has spent a couple hours on the phone with support with no resolution.
Complicating the matter is that her Tivo is a Series 3 and will become a bit of a doorstop when Chicago goes to MPEG-4. Seeing that 2/3rds of what she watches in on WTTW, I may recommend she simply get a Xfinity DVR.
Thanks if advance...
Forrest
