The complex used to have some horrible service called TVMAX/Wavevision, which apparently vanished after racking up several million dollars in FCC fines.
They are bringing new lines - they have been working on utility poles, as well as under the street. The other utilities have marked their lines everywhere, all up and down the street, and all around the property. This is gonna be a full job - brand new Comcast. I don't think they are using any TVMAX stuff - they marked between each building with "ATT" and "CenterPoint", so I think that's gonna be new as well.
The manager thinks that every apartment will get new coax as well. (I've looked in the wall - there's at least two old systems in there, one looks like a master antenna system from the 70s, and the other one looks like the TVMAX/Wavevision install).
The TVMAX plant looks awful (at least in the walls of my apartment), loose compression connectors with tons of braiding sticking out of the side. I am (ab)using some of it to distribute my DISH receiver to the bedrooms (two analog channels 21 and 23), and I had to replace all the connectors on the splitter and in all of the jacks before the picture was acceptable.
My question is, do you think each building will get fiber, with coax to the apartments? Or will we get something less exciting? (or more?) There are 200 apartments in 11 buildings, I guess it's about 6-7 acres.
Manager thinks they will be done in March or April.
