Comcast is forcing people with basic cable to put the adaptor in between the incoming coax and the TV, even if it is a digital HDTV. The result is the picture is not as good (no true HDTV), you need to use the Comcast remote provided with the adaptor box (not nearly as convenient as your own HDTV remote), and the channels are all switched around -- so you need to "refind them" (in many cases the channels have been moved up to triple digit channel numbers). For instance, if you were already used to seeing channels 11-1, 11-2, 11-3 in sequence, now the new channel 11 gives you channel 11-1 (without a true HDTV picture), but you have to hunt for WTTW Prime (formerly 11-2) and WTTW Create (formerly 11-3). I wonder what our local politicians think of this? It will depend on whether or not we put an voting pressure on them, because Comcast has contributed mightily to their campaigns.
We need to complain to Comcast, enlist AT&T's support (competition is good for us, the consumer), and we need to contact out radio and TV stations for support... Newspapers too!
