As a new Xfinity subscriber, I mentioned in an earlier thread the problems we were having with the All On button on the remote. This button triggers the on/off switch on both the STB and the TV. This has been a big problem for us because the kids, my wife, and visitors can't grasp the technical concept. For example, they turn off the TV with its own on/off switch, or with the on/off switch on the TV's own remote, then later when someone presses the All On button, the TV turns on but the STB turns off, leaving a black screen.
Apparently there is no software solution to stop the All On button from turning off the STB. In my earlier thread, some even suggested cutting off the button with a knife and taping over it. There must be a better way. One idea I had was to open up the STB and put a jumper across the on/off switch. That should keep the STB always on, although Comcast might not like a customer opening the box. Is there any type of hardware solution that would work?
I'm aware that, as the goal is to leave the STB always on, the best thing to do is to never use the All On button and to push TV then Power on the STB remote (or use the TV remote) to turn the TV on and off. I've explained this to my family but they still end up with a black screen until I get home.
Thanks for any thoughts,
