Over on the Comcast Help & Support Forum, ComcastThomas has just made it official and declared that NO new modem is required in order to use the Cloud based streaming service. As some of us suspected, the CSR's did not know what they were talking about. Shocking.

"I did a little digging on the modem upgrade issue and this is as straight of an answer as I can give you. As I assumed, there is not a requirement to have the upgraded modem to use the X1 DVR with cloud technologies. The features will work with your existing modems. That said, each Comcast market does things a little differently and may be pushing to get these new modems out in the field for a number of reasons. All I can suggest is that you have this conversation with the local sales reps if you dont want the upgraded modem. For what it is worth, I have one of these at home and love it. Its very fast."
