[Price] My long phone journey to getting a better deal

I'm not currently on any promo package or anything. I have Digital Preferred TV with HBO and Blast Internet. My TV and Internet portion of the bill (excluding taxes and fees other than the HD tech fee) comes to $171, which isn't really what I'm paying since I get credits for having my own equipment, but that's what I'll use for the base price since that's what Comcast used when I spoke to them. I've been having outages that past week so Comcast support (India) recommended I call Billing to get a credit. I did so today and while on the phone the person asked if he could look at my account to see if he could save me money. I said okay. He came back with a Triple Play promo with HBO & Stars for $163. I didn't really want phone service, but I figured I didn't need to use it and I'd save $8 a month, so I said okay. The person said my current modem would work with phone, which I knew was incorrect, but I didn't argue. After all that I went to check on my billing info online, but was locked out of billing because apparently I needed a PIN. I called Comcast again and after bouncing around I ended up in the tech support area and was told I needed to have a PIN generated to access billing which would take up to 3 days. Since I was on the phone I asked this person, what the billing person did exactly and what I needed to do. He told me the billing person added Triple Play as he said and I needed to pick up an EMTA modem from my office. I asked him if there was a rental fee, which he said was $8, but was included in the $163. He then told me there were no EMTAs at my office. I asked him what would happen if I didn't pick up an EMTA since I don't really need phone (I use OOMA and my cell phone) and he said the promo would cancel and I'd revert back to my old package. At this point he suggested I speak to the resolution department. So I was forwarded to the resolution department and spoke to someone there and explained my situation. He said I could keep my old package at $156 a month. That's $15 less than what I'm paying and $7 less than the Triple Play promo. Yes I don't get phone or Starz, but I wasn't going to use the phone and in the 2 years I had Starz previously I watched maybe 10 things so neither was a big loss. Could I get a better deal? Possibly, but like I said it's not really going to be $156, so I think I did well. If this last outage really fixed the problems I've been having then I'll be happy with the new price. -- Get the DSLR Firefox Extension. The Comcast Disney Avatar has been retired.
