I want to switch to Comcast from RCN but I need Anyroom access in my upstairs bedroom which has ethernet but no coax and running coax is not an option. With RCN I have a Tivo Q DVR host and the Tivo Mini client in the bedroom which works with either ethernet or MOCA.
It is hard to get info on X1 Anyroom client box connection options but I have heard MOCA is required and also that the client box has its own tuner which would require coax. I could live without live TV in the bedroom if I can merely watch recording from the host DVR in the bedroom.
With the Tivo Mini, I experimented with disconnecting the ethernet and connecting a MOCA/ethernet adapter to the MOCA connector and then to my home ethernet network and the Mini was able to get an IP address from my DHCP server and successfully communicate.
Would such an approach be possible with the X1 Anyroom system, connecting the client box to a MOCA/ethernet adapter then connected to the home network to watch recordings on the main DVR? Of course, this assumes the main X1 DVR connects to the home network via ethernet.
