I have a very very old model DVR Cablebox from Comcast, and it's a mess. The HDMI doesn't work anymore, the HDD is small, and now HD channels are showing audio and the GUI, but no video. I need to replace it.
Issue is, I have shows I want to keep on it. After searching and searching and searching, seems like the only thing I can possibly do is slowly, one by one, basically record them over component or something..... great.
So, I was looking into if that X1 system was any better about this.... and it was just a whole lot worse, with a ridiculous "checkout" system to watch your recordings and all sorts of other nonsense.
I do NOT want to have to deal with this nonsense again, I know that it's possible to buy your own DVR (though the options are very very limited), if I were to do that, would my recordings still be locked to the device, or are there models where I can download my recordings off of them? I just want a DVR that will work with my service and allow me to actually keep my save my records to watch on PC or whatever.
