I understand sometime this year Comcast will jump to ip video. Will that require renting a gateway for Comcast? I own my modem and router. Currently on the X1 platform.

[Comcast Equip] MOCA filter

&nbsp A Comcast tech stopped by this afternoon to install a MOCA filter. The item he installed looks like the one in the picture below, the etched model number matches up, as does the verbage on the red label. [att=1] What I wonder about is the filter was installed outside, in the weather, but the amazon.com description ( https://www.amazon.com/Filter-MoCA-Cable-coaxial-networks/dp/B00KO5KHSQ ) specifies "Designed for use within the users premise, NOT INTENDED FOR OUTSIDE INSTALLATION." Should I be concerned?

[HD] Chicago - Missing CBS, FOX and ABC HD this morning

Suddenly this morning both my DVR boxes and even Xfinity app on my tablet don't show CBS, FOX or ABC HD. It shows SD but they are just gone. I try typing the actual channel number on the TV and it shows the stations name but won't turn to it. When I turned on the one TV that was on ABC HD it came up saying channel doesn't exist. Anyone ever seen this? I've rebooted both boxes.

[TiVo] So, is there no way I can replace my Xfinity cable boxes wit

I have 4 HDTVs. One on a DVR, one on a standard cablebox, and two with just "TV Adapters" I was hoping to switch from Comcast's DVR to a Tivo both because they are much better devices in most ways and also because I was hoping it would be cheaper in the long run. I know I would have to buy a Tivo, but I figured after that initial cost at least I wouldn't have to worry about equipment rental fees. However, I can't seem to come up with any numbers where I would not end up paying MORE. Regardless of the model of Tivo(I am still a bit confused what models offer what), pretty much any model that would work with Comcast's TV service seems to cost a monthly fee of $15 or an annual fee of $150 (What's the point of an annual fee that costs the same as paying by the month? Don't yearly fees normally cost less than a monthly one to get people to pay for a whole year at once?), my DVR rental fee is $10. At first I thought it would cost more than double due to the cablecard which also costs $10, but then I read that Comcast lets you rent your first Cablecard for free..... still though, that's a simple $15 to pay for the (mandatory) Tivo service over $10 to rent a DVR from Comcast(The lifetime $550 fee is just WAY too expensive to consider)... So... is it as simple as that? There is no way I can use a Tivo for cheaper than it costs to rent a DVR from Comcast since it would cost $5 more a month? Or do the Tivos support connecting multiple TVs to them somehow so that one Tivo could service at least two or more of my TVs in the house and I wouldn't need to pay for rental fees for those too? Or would I ALSO need to pay Tivo for a subscription for whatever box I would need to connect the other TVs to as well? Do I have any options in this whatsoever where I will wind up paying less in the long run if I go Tivo?

[HD] Severe MPEG4 DVR playback issues on only one program

I have a non-X1, and have had minor issues with 30-sec skip and FF sometimes jumping ahead too far. Usually, REW will back up cleanly so I can pick up where I want to. For the past two weeks, I have run into a MAJOR issues with recordings of "American Pickers" on History. I record the Monday 'repeat' at about 12AM CDT. Not only will it skip forward 5+ minutes instead of 30-seconds, even the rewind jumps too! It will literally skip over the show, and just jump to the next commercial, or the commercial before the show when rewinding. Even more bizarre, this Monday's recording said 64 minutes in the recording list (63 minutes of show + 1 minute added for extra overrun), but the timebar was only 53 minutes. For the first 10-11 minutes, the time bar did not advance and stayed at 0. The best I have been able to do with this show is rewind back to what I hope is the 'last' commercial so I can actually watch the show. What is bizarre is that it only seems to be "American Pickers". I recorded "Forged in Fire" and the spinoff "Knife or Death" yesterday, and they are 'normal' in how they act as far as MPEG4. Anyone notice similar issues?

[Comcast Equip] Expanded Line-up now on DTAs?

I have an HD-DTA box in one of my back rooms and just noticed that I'm now getting the Digital Preferred line-up ... stuff line StarzEncore, Science etc. This must have happened pretty recently as I could only get that stuff on my main boxes. Is anyone else seeing that the DTAs are now able to tune some of the expanded package channels?

[X1] Xfinity X1 now available to New Customers

I just heard a brand new radio commercial for the new Xfinity X1 cable box on local radio station 94.1 WIP Sports radio. But like others have said its currently only available for new residents and customers :( I am a long time Triple Play customer and I wonder if I called up and complained if I could get comcast to hook me up with a few X1 boxes? My guess not very likely :( But the good news is at least its here for new customers so maybe spring or summer 2013 it will be available for the rest of the Triple Play customers. If anyone here in Philly gets it maybe you can give us a nice review with some photos and video :)

What's the deal? Comcast is moving a great channel and it seems like this is all they do? What's cable going to look like in 5-410 years? Maybe 25-50 channels? I really wouldn't; mind; I just don't want to pay $200 a month for 50 channels....

[X1] Xid box not showing correct saved recordings list

$

This problem started sometime between going to bed Saturday night and waking up Sunday morning. We have 4 boxes. XG1, XG2, and 2 Xids. The issue is only on 1 of the xids. For some reason, the saved recordings list is only showing the Cloud DVR recording list instead of the entire list of saved recording on the XG1. Other than that, the box is functioning normally. If communication between the boxes wasn't working than none of the channels would be working. I've tried reseting the box but that didn't work. Comcast has a tech scheduled to come on Wednesday afternoon. Any ideas?

New splitter install

Hey all.. Haven't posted in a while but sharing some woes of comcast ;again! 6 days and over 3hrs of horrible phone support led a tech to my house for no service. 3 of my X1 companion boxes stopped working, while the main DVR continued. Intermittent loss of CDV and internet as well. A decent tech who actually knew what they were doing came out and installed, according to him, 'a much better' powered amp outside for the main feed. Apparently the old amp we had previously was burned and black marks on it from other damage. This tech said the previous splitter was crammed to the point where the connectors were bent and hardly making a connection. The new box just has a zip tie holding it closed so I'm going to take a look when I get home today. I'll upload pics too!

Anyone tired of Xfinity crap channel line up?

$

The line up of TV channels on their best triple play consists of all the generic crap that's been around for 30+ years now. Grew up watching that stuff. It's gotten old because it's all the commercial stuff I am tired of like Disney and TBS and HBO. It's 260 channels of commercial crap. Oh and mostly duplicate channels ie standard resolution and HD. Sort of reminds me of drinking only Pepsi or Coca-Cola flavors for 30 years. I can't hardly stand Pepsi or Coca-Cola flavors anymore. I like to drink rare imported flavors and things like sour apple which only 7 eleven has on the tap at some spots. I did notice that there's no original odd ball channels but those do exist. All the international stuff is blocked. Russia Today isn't there. No Japanese Asia channels.. No German channel with nightly porn broadcast. Etc. If you add some of these channels they charge you $100+ alone like a second cable subscription. Also I pay $185 for this commercial garbage. Verizon FiOS customers get 480 channels for $110. Wonder what kinds of shit Verizon has given you get double the channels.. I noticed all the channels we get heavily censor content and seem to spread American big business propaganda .. All of the content is controlled and provided by them.. >. let us break out of this mind control propaganda stream.

[NEWS] beIN Sports files Program Carriage Complaint against Comcast

beIN Sports is complaining that their sports channels are placed in higher-priced and lower viewed tiers than Comcast's own sports channels, NBC Sports and NBC Universo, and frequently provides beIN's channels only in SD (vs. HD for NBC Sports and Universo): Comcast Hit With Program Carriage Complaint BeIN Sports says it should 'be in' lower, more widely viewed, tier By John Eggerton, Multichannel News - March 19, 2018 http://www.multichannel.com/news/carriage-deals/comcast-hit-program-carriage-complaint/418770quote:Sports network beIN Sports has filed a program carriage complaint against Comcast, saying the cable operator has violated both the program carriage rules and a nondiscrimination condition in its NBCU purchase, which it said occurred before the Jan. 20 expiration of that condition. It is complaining that Comcast puts its networks in a sports tier with lower penetration than its owned sports programming, and that there is no other reasonable explanation of that placement other than Comcast wanting to favor its own programming in violation of FCC rules and its merger condition. It wants the court to enjoin Comcast from "further carriage discrimination," which means carriage on "equitable terms" that doesn't "unreasonably restrict beIN's ability to compete fairly." In a complaint filed with the Federal Communications Commission, beIN says Comcast/NBCU discriminated against it in favor of NBC Sports Group's "similarly situated" sports programming, NBC Sports and NBC Universo. It says that other distributors — Charter Communications, CenturyLink, Frontier, fuboTV, Liberty Puerto Rico, Prism and Verizon Communications — give the networks greater penetration, so it is not a case of Comcast treating beIN as other distributors do. BeIN said that Comcast has it wrong when it says the "similarly situated" language applies to networks rather than programming. "The Commission has already found that a sports network focused on football (the NFL Network) is similarly situated to Comcast-affiliated networks focused on golf, fishing and hunting programming," it told the commission. "Here, the similarity among the programming of the four networks in question is much more pronounced." BeIN said its networks, beIN and beIN en Español and NBC Sports and NBC Universo each provide hundreds of live soccer games yearly and have the same target audience and targeted advertisers, and even have roughly the same audience even allowing for beIN's lower penetration. ...

Really only need Internet -- how about Youtube TV ?

Am considering dropping all Xfinity TV, don't have time to watch TV but should the mood strike, end up looking next day or couple hours delayed at commercial-free HD streams for some shows (Kimmel, Colbert, 60-Minutes, BBC News) and don't have any interest in "live TV". Mostly have Xfinity TV for guests/visitors. Currently we have for 89/mo HBO,Starz and the usual 200+ standard channels and 100/10 Blast netspeed, all own equipment. With fees and taxes, final monthly bill is 104/mo. Xfinity gives us free HD (no charge monthly $10) but it's really wasted on us since we don't watch using the black box. For 6 months now, we've had the Xfinity X1 Box powered OFF, with just a laptop running linux in that room, connected via HDMI to a Samsung flatscreen. If someone wants to watch live TV, they just open the tv.xfinity.com URL on browser and this would be very similar to watching Youtube TV. Similarly, we have LTE or better speeds when mobile (outside homes) and can watch live programs on our tablets using the Xfinity app. But again, can just open Chrome, Firefox and watch live streams in HD on tablets when traveling or with a 1 or 2 hour delay. Which brings me to question -- how does Youtube TV compare ? Yes, it's now 40/mo. Likely I would be still paying around 50/mo for Comcast HSI and then 40/mo to Google, so same difference or no? We could drop Comcast completely and use our ATT 30/mo at 50/10 speeds (they give you a break in price if you have wireless). Difference to Comcast is that with ATT, the 50/10 is exclusive to you, where with Comcast the 100/10 is pooled with other customers in your block. About a year ago, on these forums, someone mentioned that Samsung was coming out with a new TV that would make using a laptop obsolete in that it would be able to launch it's own browser, connected to your home router and similar to a laptop-connected-HDMI-to-TV, it would simply run Flash internally. Is this now available ?

Has Comcast launched the xi5 or xi6 yet? If not any idea when they will launch them? I could really use one in a spare bedroom with no cable line. An wireless dta would be even better for that room actually. A little off topic but when will the XB6 gigabit modem/gateway be out?
