X1 $49 or $99 upgrade fee applies even for self installation?

So I had a chat with Comcast and they said my address is eligible for a X1 self install kit. Mentioned that a 49 or 99 "Upgrade Fee" applies plus a $9.95 shipping fee. I guess I could try and call them to get this waived tho not sure how well that will go. I thought this would only apply to a professional install but i guess that isn't the case.

[X1-X2] X1 Triple-play Upgrade

Hi all - I'm new to this forum, so I hope this hasn't all been covered before (I tried to search but didn't see my exact questions). I have Comcast Cable and Internet, with an old HD DVR (don't know the exact model, but it is a Motorola that I have had for years) that is starting to act up, and my home phone line from Verizon is starting to give me problems. I am thinking about going to Triple play X1, but I had a couple of questions: 1. Currently, my cable modem is in my basement near my computer (with a router for my other devices and wireless), which is no where near my primary TV. Is the tech going to want the new modem (which I assume they are replacing) closer to the TV, or can that stay in another room? Are there any new wiring requirements, or should all of my old coax still be fine? 2. This is more of a phone question, sorry if it doesn't belong in here - with the comcast phone service, do I have to run phone lines from the new modem?

I just heard a brand new radio commercial for the new Xfinity X1 cable box on local radio station 94.1 WIP Sports radio. But like others have said its currently only available for new residents and customers :( I am a long time Triple Play customer and I wonder if I called up and complained if I could get comcast to hook me up with a few X1 boxes? My guess not very likely :( But the good news is at least its here for new customers so maybe spring or summer 2013 it will be available for the rest of the Triple Play customers. If anyone here in Philly gets it maybe you can give us a nice review with some photos and video :)

Are people with X1 service getting these Xi3 HD boxes yet? My service was installed about a month ago here in NorthernVA. They installed the following boxes: DVR:PX013ANM HDBox:PR150BNM The PR150BNM is acting up and very slow to react and I'm wondering if take it to the local comcast store to exchange, would they just give me another one? or can I request the Xi3 if they have available? what are other options?

As of April 15th Comcast dropped WABC-DT3 (246) after it switched from the SD Feed of Live Weil. for the first day Comcast had a slate that Live Well in now only available in HD (WABC DT2 ch 790) but have now deleted the channel. Why did Comcast not continue to carry WABC DT-3 as Laff?

I'm helping someone choose service and as i dont have cable, i could use some pointers. looks like the triple play will be 80 for the first year, 100 for the 2nd year. and 140ish from then on. correct? 1. after the 2nd year, are they good about locking you in again at 'new customer ' rates or do you gotta beg to get lower than that 140 price 2 can you bring your own phone modem from the approved comcast list i see online. the online chat dude told me NO!!! but 10 a month for the modem is crazy 2a (i never see a charge for cable modem for internet on any test bills ive done online. why is this?) 3. they want no extra features, just plain old live tv, no dvr. from what i gather on the site for 2 HD boxes its 10 bucks each extra. is this correct? am i missing anything else? 4. i really dont understand the x1 box but is the cable and phone modem integrated or is this the reason the guy said you cannot bring your own modem? 5 i ran a test bill of the triple play and got the below. are there any other surprises i would see when i get the 'real bill' starter xf 79.99 x1 HD 9.99 x1 HD 9.99 wireless gateway 10 non published number 3.50 non publish fee 15 activation (waived) total 113.99

I leave my TV on in my bedroom to drown out the noise from the outside world but one of the problems I notice overnight (this is a client box, not DVR) is it resets overnight. It gives a message that it has to reset and then reboots.

Is it considered a termination of their contract if I drop TV but keep Internet. I may consider going back to DirecTV. The X1 has too many bugs. I may keep it, I may not. Haven't decided yet.

[Content] Cant watch A&E On Demad (free) But Its On My Channel Lineup

If you have and paying for a channel on your channel line up (A&E in this case) shouldn't you be able to watch the shows A&E have for free On Demand? If so I cant, and Comcast seems to not be able to fix this (yet) Curious, does it go by the program name, or the channel name. For instance...if its a popular and or recently aired show you pay. If its a crap show its free. I know that's a dumb question, but I cant figure this out. And I'm at the mercy of Comcast to fix this, and so far it isn't going well. Anyone else having similar issues like this? -- Long you live and high you fly, and smiles you'll give and tears you'll cry, and all you touch and all you see, is all your life will ever be.

[HD] Get Ready for "Ultra-HDTV"

While Comcast is still charging us an "HD Technology" fee, it looks like DirecTV is already planning for "Ultra-HDTV": DirecTV planning for Ultra HDTV Advanced Television - March 15, 2012 http://advanced-television.com/index.php/2012/03/15/directv-planning-for-u-hdtv/ "US pay-TV giant DirecTV will adopt Ultra-HDTV. DirecTV is already planning its future spectrum needs in readiness for U-HDTV. Philip Goswitz, DirecTV’s SVP/Space and Communications/R&D, speaking at the Satellite 2012 event in Washington, said “4,000 and 8,000-line services are great for the satellite industry, and will ensure that satellite broadcasting continues to distinguish itself for image quality of service. We see this as a key strategic advantage for us.”" : While Goswitz did not say when 4,000-line services would start, and it is fair to say that there is still a great deal to be done on compression and other enabling technologies in order to bring these super high-resolution images into viewers’ homes, it is nevertheless clear that DirecTV wants to see its lead maintained over terrestrial TV, cable and DSL-type delivery services, and Goswitz sees satellite as maintaining that technological edge. Japan’s planned introduction of Ultra-HDTV is scheduled for 2020, and will use Ka-band, a largely unused set of frequencies." Geez - I don't think I want to know what Comcast would charge as a "U-HD Technology" fee then! :)

[Comcast Equip] DTA Guide Photo Tour

Starting 12/1/2014 the DTA guide became available in Maine. I haven't seen any decent documentation on how the guide operates (even Comcast's pages aren't specific enough!) so I'll explain it a bit for you guys. First and foremost, compared to the X1 experience, the HD DTA guide is remarkably better. Yes, no On Demand, no Pay-per-view, BUT it shows twice the number of channels in one screen, AND each button press is immediate (no lag). However, the interface was clearly designed for 4:3. DTAs now have a "Watch in HD" feature, but it is more similar to how legacy iGuide boxes work than the X1 boxes-- If a program is available in HD (it goes by program, if the program is SD and there is an HD channel available, it won't prompt for HD), a little help bar appears above the SmartBar saying to press OK for HD. Unfortunately, this isn't automatic like on X1. Also, I noticed that by default the SmartBar was turned on. Also by default are "popup tab" help text. Basically it tells you exactly what will happen if you press OK while the SmartBar is visible. My final thing of note is that the XFINITY button on the remote simply opens the settings menu, which doesn't make much sense coming from X1 (where you're encouraged to use the XFINITY button rather than the Guide button). However, the settings menu has a nice new Diagnostics tab. All of these photos are of a Pace HD DTA on Limited Basic service.
