[Rant] A few issues with Comcast?!

I would think this falls under rant. If it needs to be moved, move it to the appropriate group. Sorry and thanks then. Also sorry for the long post, I just would like your guys input and what I should do on everything that was going on with the situation. To make a long story short. I recently moved and was forced to get Comcast for TV because I had signal issues at my new location with my current provider at the time, DirecTV. But I already had a Comcast for Internet. So to start off I requested a 4K box for my Sony Bravia Android 4K HDR TV. The person on the phone told me that at the time of the install they'll have to check and make sure that your TV is 4K. Then if it is indeed a 4K TV, they'll gladly install a 4K box as opposed to just a regular X1 HD box. But when the technician showed up he told me that he's no longer allowed to carry any 4K boxes at all in his truck. He claimed because techs were installing 4K boxes on non 4k TVs, so Comcast as a whole is doing this. So while the technician was here doing the install he mentioned to me that my area is direct to home fiber optic ready. Meaning that I should be able to get better quality of internet, more channels in HD, and the HD is looking very very good(as good as DirecTV's quality, even better on some channels). Whitch that's due to my area being fiber optic. So once I started diving into the X1 platform(guide, on demand etc) for the first time and trying to figure out everything, I noticed a lack of my "premium" channels being "premium"(sarcastically speaking). I say that because what I'm noticing is like only the 1 main HBO, Starz, Cinemax, etc is being displayed in HD. While channels like HBO Zone, HBO Family, More Max, Showtime Next, every channel like that and even every single The Movie Channel is all in SD. So like for example if there's 14 HBO's I'm only getting one out of 14 in HD for example. I would think in 2018 by now every single channel would be in HD, and the technology would be there to deploy every single channel in HD. Especially the "premium" channels that are not so "premium" because of it. On top of it Comcast on their forms and when you call in advise you to use the on demand or the channels app. They advise you to restart the movie once you see it on the channel and play it from there. But the problem I have with that is even though majority of the content is on on demand or the app, still not 100% of all the content is available. Not to mention some shows are on channels that are not in HD, and I have to wait till 6AM to be able to get it in HD from on demand or that channels app. As not all the apps allow you to stream the channel live or doesn't have the ability to let you watch it live through the app. on top of it I don't remember which channel it is, but Comcast doesn't have an agreement with one of the premium channels for their app. So I can't even use that app at all. So all of this this defeats the purpose of actually having the channels because you can't watch it live. Also when I call in to Comcast to ask questions about this, they're ill informed because they try to tell me all these channels are not in HD to begin with, meaning the company doesn't actually broadcast those channels in HD. But there full of it because I know for a fact that AT&T U-verse, DirecTV, Verizon FiOS, and Dish have all the premium channels in HD, every single one. The problem here is I can't go with DirecTV or dish because of signal issues, I can't go with Verizon because it doesn't exist in my area, and AT&T is phasing out U-verse eventually for DirecTV. So I'm not going to switch to something that eventually is going to get phased out completely for another technology. So what I don't understand is if my area is fiber optic, and from what I understand Comcast also does agreements with companies for their channels based on the location as well. So if they know that an area is fiber optic shouldn't they have an agreement to get acquire more HD channels for the fiber optic area that is actually capable I'm doing so technology wise?! I even asked the technician that came to do the install the same thing, and he was dumbfounded by the question because they haven't done it yet, but he did say that it's good idea. Also why am I having such a bad experience with Comcast?! From being so hard to get the 4K box, to the lack of HD channels. I mean I think the X1 platform is the best available I think. So if they can just add more HD channels(more so more premium channels) then I think they would be the best provider out.

Older DVR recordings Slow FF/RW Bad Video quality and no DD

I exchanged my older DVR boxes for the new 4K XG1V4 this week and everything is great except one annoying thing. I noticed that all my recordings now fast forward and rewind a lot slower then they did before. Also the video quality looks a little worse and also none of them play in Dolby Digital on my Denon receiver either now. However I did some new recordings with the new DVR boxes hooked up and all the new recording fast forward, Rewind like normal and also have great video quality and Dolby Digital works too. So the good news was that all my older recording returned on the new DVR's however they all suffer from the issues above. Any ideas? Thanks

Pause show on 1 TV Resume on 2nd TV?

I am considering a switch to Comcast. With the Xfinity DVR and associated boxes would I be able to pause A show I am watching then move to another room and resume from where I was?

[Apps] Xfinity Stream missing channels

Figures the one time I want to use the xfinity tv app it's having issues. Missing around half of the channels. Tried via website and roku.

[Video] Large format/4K tv vs Xfinity downrezzing

Anyone here using a larger format(55 plus) 4K tv seeing any viewing issues with Xfinity and the downrezzing the HD signals? I realize they may look okay on a 1080p tv but how is it on a larger screen 4K tv?

[X1] Dolby Digital Volume Level

I cross posted this one on the xfinity group but I figure I might get more responses here. Have any of you noticed the DD output on the X1 is about 12-13 dB too low? If I switch the X1 to stereo the volume levels come up around the proper levels.

[Comcast Equip] Way to make my X1 box tell my receiver to change inputs?

My Onkyo receiver will automatically switch inputs when (I guess?) I power on a device. Say I am watching TV and turn on my PS4, the receiver will automatically switch to that device. Same as if I send something to my Chromecast. Is there something I can do with the X1 box and/or remote to make it switch back to TV? My receiver is in a cabinet and I have to get up and open a door and manually change the input for only this. Thanks!

Odd Question.. Can i mix iGuide and X1 on the same accuont?

I am flight crew, and want to put a slingbox in.. and i'm not sure how it'll work with X1. I'm willing to pay for another box, but just need to know before I do.. If the X1 box does not work well (and i'm assuming it will not due to the laggy interface), Can I just add an old iGuide box? There's a few channels I cannot access through the website and that would be a perfect solution.

[Comcast Equip] Multiple DVR boxes

For a while I have had the XG1v3 and one Xi3 box for 2 tvs. I recently upgraded my main tv to a LG 4k, so I chatted and ordered the XG1v4. It arrived today, installed and activated easily, Olympics in 4k HDR look awesome. My question is, I am going to return one of the older boxes, can I keep the XG1v3 for my second tv and return the Xi3? Is it possible to have 2 of the dvr boxes? Is there an additional fee for that?

Triple Play Trade-offs

I am am new to Triple Play and like some input on the real world trade-offs between Starter XF, HD Preferred and HD Premier. For lower cost I am leaning toward the Starter package and it includes 140+ channels, Xfinity Streaming App, X1 Voice Remote, Download speeds 100 Mbps. The future plan is to reduce bill more through cord-cutting or a hybrid mix of cord-cutting/Comcast. The main concerning HD quality, DVR and download speed for streaming. Programming is subjective, so I will leave that out of the comparison. I have three TVs, one of which is 4K. Which Comcast programming is "HD"? (I know this depends on the if the source was produce in HD) . What are my options for a DVR ? Will streaming from an outside service (ie Amazon) be in HD if the actual programming is HD or does Comcast limit this? Buy or rent modem and router ? TIA

[X1] Slow guide/UI

I have an Arris MX011ANC X1 DVR and it's feels really sluggish and laggy. Is there a newer model that has more of a modern type responsiveness? I'd be willing to give up the DVR functionality if the guide didn't feel like it was tripping over itself.

Cable TV/Internet Wiring Topology

Hi gang... We recently upgraded to Xfinity's X1 service and I started getting terrible pixelation issues on the televisions. I am new to all this and need some help. I replaced the existing splitters to reduce signal loss and now have the setup as listed in section one of the attached image. I still get some pixelation now and then, and would like to know if adding an amplified splitter and changing the layout as show in section two will benefit me? I cannot pull individual lines for the kitchen box and the modem. Thanks for your time!

[Rant] Nick Jr App

So I finally get around to adding the Nick Jr App on my granddaughter's Fire Tablet. Go to add Xfinity as my provider to unlock more content for the Nick Jr App. Guess what? Not available. Quick search......complaints in Jan of this year. Apparently Xfinity's stream agreement with Nick Jr expired. They are posting suggesting to use the Stream App. Sure.....for a 4 year old? There are over 100 other providers listed. And Xfinity possibly being the largest content provider is missing! WTH Xfinity!!

According to the notice posted today https://www.usitc.gov/secretary/fed_reg_notices/337/337-1001_notice11212017sgl.pdf , the ITC, following its investigation, has issued a “limited exclusion order prohibiting the importation of certain digital video receivers and hardware and software components” and had “issued cease and desist orders…directed to the Comcast respondents. The investigation is terminated.” In addition to Comcast, other respondents in the ITC case include set-top suppliers such as Technicolor, Arris and Pace Ltd. (Arris acquired U.K.-based Pace in January 2016). “Rovi is pleased the International Trade Commission issued its final ruling in our favor and found that two Rovi patents are valid and infringed by Comcast’s X1 products, and issued an exclusion order that bans Comcast from importing and selling X1 devices that infringe our valuable intellectual property,” Rovi, a TiVo company, said in a statement. “Today’s Commission Opinion reinforces the need for Comcast to take the necessary licenses to our IP.” : Comcast issued this statement: “We respectfully disagree with the ITC’s decision in this matter. In fact, Rovi has never disputed that Comcast or its predecessors independently developed our X1 platform and our cloud- and app-based technology. While we believe the ITC reached the wrong decision, we will remove this feature from those offered to our subscribers while we pursue an appeal.” The feature Comcast is referring to is functionality that lets video customers schedule DVR recordings remotely from mobile devices that they would watch later via the set-top box. ...Also on Bloomberg News: https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-11-21/tivo-wins-u-s-trade-case-against-comcast-in-royalty-fight EDIT: Karl has a news item up on this now: https://www.dslreports.com/shownews/Comcast-Loses-Patent-Battle-Against-TiVO-140770

[Comcast Equip] getting a new XG1v4 box

I will be getting a XG1v4 box on 2-22-18, which will be replacing my existing basic X1 box. Looking through the limited documentation of the XG1v4 box I observe that it has 2 hdmi ports. I can't make out the label. Are they both HDMI outputs? If so what is the 2nd port used for?
