[Install] Exchanging Equipment
I have the original equipment I received when I first switched the X1. I have the main box and the tiny ones for the other TV's. I have been having problems over the weekend and it was suggested that I switch the boxes. Do you recommend I go to the store or have a tech come out? Which boxes will I get?
thank you,
Patrick

CBS SD not letterboxed?
I was watching the live finale of Celebrity Big Brother last night at my girlfriend's house. She still uses a Motorola DCT2500 set-top box. Anyways, the program was being shown in a 4:3 "center-cut" format rather than being letterboxed. As a result, what you would usually see on the left and right edges of an HDTV were "lost". It resulted in some content not being shown on screen (see images).
Is Comcast to blame here, or is it the local affiliate (WBZ, which IS a CBS owned-and-operated station)? My girlfriend is paying for cable TV and visual content on this channel is constantly being chopped off.

[Video] Delay to Watch Xfinity Streaming of DVR Shows Being Recorded
I have been noticing this as more & more prevalent lately. I will go to my PC to watch a program that is recording on my DVR. I go to the Xfinity web site, click on the show and if it has not completed recording I get the message that something went wrong. After the is fully recorded it plays fine. I have no trouble with an DVR boxes doing this. Do they, or the networks, put some kind of delay on this? I've had this happen the last two days. Once on Showtime and again on ABC. I have watched shows on the History Channel while they are recording and have never had this happen. Just wondering if it's specific to certain network agreements.
Any thoughts welcome,
Thanks

[X1] New Voice Remote coming soon - the XR15

This Comcast Voices blog post today mentions, and has a photo of, the "forthcoming new remote" - the XR15 voice remote for X1:
Red Dot Award Recognizes Comcast for Simple, Elegant Products
Comcast Voices - July 19, 2017
http://corporate.comcast.com/comcast-voices/red-dot-award-recognizes-comcast-for-simple-elegant-products
A "face-on" shot of it can be found on this linked page on the Red Dot site: http://red-dot.de/pd/online-exhibition/work/?lang=en&code=41-05579-2017&y=2017&c=252&a=0quote:Ergonomics and user-friendliness were the primary focus in developing this remote control. The result is a compact input device for which the design and placement of each key has been well thought out. Keys that are only rarely used have been completely eliminated or integrated into other function buttons. The keys are tactically differentiated and can be identified by touch. They also light up when the remote is taken into the user’s hand.Above is a side-by-side comparison with the current XR11 voice remote.

[Install] Xi5 requires a professional install?
I called Comcast today and wanted to get an Xi5 for a TV that cannot have coax run to it and the tech support rep was building the order for an SIK then transferred me to loyalty to see if they would give me HBO free for a year to offset the cost. When the loyalty rep was done getting supervisor approval for the HBO, she noticed that an order wasn’t placed and she called tech support to make sure and they said that I can do an SIK since I have an XB6 with MoCA enabled and an XG1v4 but she highly recommended a tech do the install because she’s taken a lot of calls for failed SIKs with them.
Now I’m being told that it has to be a pro install, they aren’t available for SIKs even though I had two reps ready to set them up.
What’s the deal here? I have a tech scheduled for Wednesday but I really don’t want them tearing apart my network if I don’t have to.

[HD] Disney JR SD vs HD
Came across something today that had me curious so thought I would ask here for clarification.
Young granddaughter visits and likes to watch Disney Jr of Nick Jr. AFAICT both Disney Jr and Nick Jr are only offered in SD. Both are listed on the below and above 1000 channel location in my market.
So this morning she wanted to watch something that was not current showing so I went to On Demand and found something on Disney Jr she wanted to watch for free. So I click on it and it asks for "ways to watch" which takes me to Free HD and the paid one. Sure enough the Free HD is showing up in HD.
So it appears Xfinity is not carrying Disney Jr in it's HD lineup however I can watch it On Demand in HD. Does that seem to be what others see?

[X1] Xfinity X1 now available to New Customers
I just heard a brand new radio commercial for the new Xfinity X1 cable box on local radio station 94.1 WIP Sports radio. But like others have said its currently only available for new residents and customers :( I am a long time Triple Play customer and I wonder if I called up and complained if I could get comcast to hook me up with a few X1 boxes? My guess not very likely :( But the good news is at least its here for new customers so maybe spring or summer 2013 it will be available for the rest of the Triple Play customers.
If anyone here in Philly gets it maybe you can give us a nice review with some photos and video :)

[Video] Periodic video/audio freezes
Starting Sunday evening I started seeing pauses in the video/audio where video/audio freezes for a second and then jumps ahead as if the signal was lost of something, yet when I check the signals and errors on my Tivo everything is fine. I also contacted Comcast who said my signals are “great” and that no one has reported any channel problems.
I saw it once during Last Week Tonight on HBO, but when watching the Star Wars Rebels 90 minute finale on Disney XD Monday night I was seeing this issue every 5 to 10 minutes. I didn’t see it when watching The Daily Show on Comedy Central thought.
I asked about this on the Tivo forums and got about 7 responses from people from various parts of the country who saw similar issues that started about a day or two ago.
Is anyone else having issues with audio/video pauses?

[Bill] Broadcast Fee
Just switched to TV+internet from internet only. A box showed up at my door a few days later, I opened it and found a janky old SD-only box that still had the same interface I remember from 1997(!). I plugged it in and let it "activate" so I could use the HBO go login, then I packed it back up and plan to return it. My question is, without any method of accessing the "broadcast TV" content, will I be able to get the now $12(!) monthly broadcast fee removed? This fee was never disclosed (I'm sure they hid it somewhere), and I'm feeling pretty ripped off. I get they want to charge more and that's fine, but if this fee is mandatory for my plan, then it needs to be included in the advertised and agreed upon package rate.

[X1] Comcast to Stream NPR to X1 Boxes
Adding another OTT option to the mix, Comcast will soon start to offer content from National Public Radio on its X1 set-top box platform.
Comcast, in the "coming weeks," plans to offer a TV-optimized version of the NPR One app, along with its mix of local and national news and podcasts, to X1 customers. About 60% of Comcast’s 21.3 million residential video subs are on X1.
The app via X1 will be available for free, though users have the option to login and create accounts (also free) that can personalize the experience.
As part of the integration, customers can use the X1 voice remote to launch the NPR One app (by saying “NPR” or “NPR One”), and NPR content will also be searchable and integrated with the X1 VOD menus, appearing along with other related content. Comcast said customers can also access content from their local NPR Member Station via the NPR One app on X1.
Further out, X1 customers will also be able to find specific NPR programs or podcasts by name or topic by saying, for example, “Show me Ask Me Another on NPR One.”

[Comcast Equip] XR2 Freezes with Magnavox TV
We received a new XR2 remote for our HD DTA. I programmed it earlier today and everything seemed to be working. Just a few minutes ago, I noticed that the remote freezes up after pressing the volume button a few times. I had to remove a battery to unfreeze it.
I see this is a common issue with Magnavox TVs and the XR2 remote. http://forums.xfinity.com/t5/Non-X1-Service/xr2-remote-not-working/td-p/2820714
Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks!

Returning to Xfinity as a X1 customer
So, after my venture out to a local WISP (which failed miserably) i am returning to xfinity, and chose to check out the X1 platform. I decided to self install (as a prior D* tech, i wired my whole house myself a few years ago).
Previously, i had a HDHomeRun/CableCARD combo with my own modem and router. Returning, i opted to use Comcasts modem (in bridge mode) and chose the X1 TV service for three rooms.
I ended up with a Pace XG1 and two XiD's.
I read the Pace XG1 only has 5 DVR tuners, seems that all of the other X1 DVR's have 6. I dont really care because i dont record ALOT, i just like to pause-- a lot.
Anyhow, im wanting to know if anyone has experience with the multiple brands/models of equipment, and if i should have attempt a demand for a certain model. I'll gladly create a complaint as a returning customer within my first thirty days to get something that is a known-better unit.
I appreciate any responses!

[Connection] XFINITY XG1-A Picture Macroblocking/Screen Cutouts
We've had X1 TV service for a while and the picture quality has been underwhelming. Programming on many, if not all, of the channels suffer from pretty severe macroblocking, and frequent picture/audio cutouts. Attached is a picture of the system report on the box. Are these figures within normal operating specifications, or is there a signal issue that might be causing these issues? Thanks in advance for the assistance.

[Bill] Bill went up, can anyone help
Hi everyone, my bill has been $117.77 for the past year since I got Comcast tv + internet. I have one tv and thus one HD DVR (the x1 dvr).
Two months ago my bill went up to almost $150. I called and they said they fixed something on the account and to just wait for the next bill. Now it's down, but it's still $20 too high. I went over the bill and I have a line item called "service to additional TV with DVR service and TV box" for $19.95. I think this is the culprit. I believe they think that I have 2 tv's and 2 boxes, but I only have 1 tv and 1 box in my house.
I have done the online chat multiple times, called many times and even called the cancellation line. The lady on the cancellation line helped the most. She was able to put some credits on my account for the past month bill and said she would call back when her manager was in the office because only the manager could do the "real fix" on my account. I never heard back so I called and asked for her. She wasn't in, but the rep said she would email her and ask her to call me back. I still never heard back :( It's been about 2 weeks.
I really don't know what to do at this point so I am turning to you all here. What options do I have? It seems every time I call, nobody can actually help me or tell me what is wrong with the account. I just want my old bill back as nothing has changed. I did not add or remove any services but my bill went from $117.77 to now $137.39 from what I can tell online. I have a 2 year contract and I'm only a year in.
Thank you for any suggestions. I really can't live with this bill going up $20/mo, *especially* if there's no corresponding increase in service (channels, internet speed, etc.).

MOCA filter

A Comcast tech stopped by this afternoon to install a MOCA filter. The item he installed looks like the one in the picture below, the etched model number matches up, as does the verbage on the red label.
[att=1]
What I wonder about is the filter was installed outside, in the weather, but the amazon.com description ( https://www.amazon.com/Filter-MoCA-Cable-coaxial-networks/dp/B00KO5KHSQ ) specifies "Designed for use within the users premise, NOT INTENDED FOR OUTSIDE INSTALLATION."
Should I be concerned?
