Saw this in my latest bill in the Chicago area. It is probably going to happen nationally around the same time:quote:Effective May 10, 2018, the following channels will no longer be available on our Digital Economy TV service: Disney Channel, Cartoon Network and Food Network. These channels will be available on our Digital Starter service. Effective May 10th, 2018, Disney Jr, Disney XD, ESPNU, ESPN News, NFL Network, Nick Jr, Nick Toons and Teen Nick will no longer be included in Xfinity Instant TV.

[Praise] X1 Picture looks wonderful.

Our family just got X1 service yesterday and we love the picture so much, I had to beg my dad to add an extension to my room and even though the TVs are different (LG Plasma @ 720p and my TV is TCL/Roku TV @ 1080p), I can't see any degradation of the picture quality at all, even with the stupid HD fee added as others have claimed.

[NEWS] beIN Sports files Program Carriage Complaint against Comcast

beIN Sports is complaining that their sports channels are placed in higher-priced and lower viewed tiers than Comcast's own sports channels, NBC Sports and NBC Universo, and frequently provides beIN's channels only in SD (vs. HD for NBC Sports and Universo): Comcast Hit With Program Carriage Complaint BeIN Sports says it should 'be in' lower, more widely viewed, tier By John Eggerton, Multichannel News - March 19, 2018 http://www.multichannel.com/news/carriage-deals/comcast-hit-program-carriage-complaint/418770quote:Sports network beIN Sports has filed a program carriage complaint against Comcast, saying the cable operator has violated both the program carriage rules and a nondiscrimination condition in its NBCU purchase, which it said occurred before the Jan. 20 expiration of that condition. It is complaining that Comcast puts its networks in a sports tier with lower penetration than its owned sports programming, and that there is no other reasonable explanation of that placement other than Comcast wanting to favor its own programming in violation of FCC rules and its merger condition. It wants the court to enjoin Comcast from "further carriage discrimination," which means carriage on "equitable terms" that doesn't "unreasonably restrict beIN's ability to compete fairly." In a complaint filed with the Federal Communications Commission, beIN says Comcast/NBCU discriminated against it in favor of NBC Sports Group's "similarly situated" sports programming, NBC Sports and NBC Universo. It says that other distributors — Charter Communications, CenturyLink, Frontier, fuboTV, Liberty Puerto Rico, Prism and Verizon Communications — give the networks greater penetration, so it is not a case of Comcast treating beIN as other distributors do. BeIN said that Comcast has it wrong when it says the "similarly situated" language applies to networks rather than programming. "The Commission has already found that a sports network focused on football (the NFL Network) is similarly situated to Comcast-affiliated networks focused on golf, fishing and hunting programming," it told the commission. "Here, the similarity among the programming of the four networks in question is much more pronounced." BeIN said its networks, beIN and beIN en Español and NBC Sports and NBC Universo each provide hundreds of live soccer games yearly and have the same target audience and targeted advertisers, and even have roughly the same audience even allowing for beIN's lower penetration. ...

Any word whether the MLB Extra Innings package will be offered in HD in the Philadelphia Area? For the life of me, I don't understand why Comcast does not offer their sports channels in HD in this area of their home base.

Comcast now converting broadcast channels to MPEG4

I just noticed that Comcast is starting to convert some local broadcast channels to MPEG4. On my non-X1 DCX-3400, I can tell MPEG4 because the 30-second skip has a bit of a delay, and sometimes the 15-sec rewind doesn't actually go back. I noticed this on a recent recording of "The Tonight Show". I checked my DTA, which has a nice virtual channel map, and it's true. Here in Chicago, it is showing WGBO, WLS, WMAQ, WTTW and WSNS as MPEG4 (code A in the map) and all on 147MHz. And yes, they are all downconverted to 720p. As far as I know, broadcast WMAQ (the NBC owned station) should be 1080i.

[Comcast Equip] XR2 Freezes with Magnavox TV

We received a new XR2 remote for our HD DTA. I programmed it earlier today and everything seemed to be working. Just a few minutes ago, I noticed that the remote freezes up after pressing the volume button a few times. I had to remove a battery to unfreeze it. I see this is a common issue with Magnavox TVs and the XR2 remote. http://forums.xfinity.com/t5/Non-X1-Service/xr2-remote-not-working/td-p/2820714 Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

I am at wits end with Comcast. I have issues with my XI service that losses connection and is down several times a day. I have had tech out here lead tech and a supervisor out and it is still not fixed. (3 visits over last 10 days) I called today to cancel my contract and they said I am locked in. How can this be if my service is not working? I am totally frustrated. Up to 3 weeks ago, I loved Comcast; now I am ready to throw all my equipment out the back window. Any ideas how I can get out of this contract? Don't mention small claim court as that is a pipe dream. Thank. you

I finally gave in and replaced my 2 RNG110 boxes with X1. I did the self install and received a Primary box and a XiD DTA box. I have both working fine currently. I also have 4 DTA's in the house, I noticed 2 of my existing DTA's are already XiD boxes, but they run like the other DTA's with the older guide. Can I remove the filters on them and have them automatically upgrade to X1? I don't have the DVR version, just enough that we can now talk to the 2 new boxes.

&nbsp This Comcast Voices blog post today mentions, and has a photo of, the "forthcoming new remote" - the XR15 voice remote for X1: Red Dot Award Recognizes Comcast for Simple, Elegant Products Comcast Voices - July 19, 2017 http://corporate.comcast.com/comcast-voices/red-dot-award-recognizes-comcast-for-simple-elegant-products A "face-on" shot of it can be found on this linked page on the Red Dot site: http://red-dot.de/pd/online-exhibition/work/?lang=en&code=41-05579-2017&y=2017&c=252&a=0quote:Ergonomics and user-friendliness were the primary focus in developing this remote control. The result is a compact input device for which the design and placement of each key has been well thought out. Keys that are only rarely used have been completely eliminated or integrated into other function buttons. The keys are tactically differentiated and can be identified by touch. They also light up when the remote is taken into the user’s hand.Above is a side-by-side comparison with the current XR11 voice remote.

Comcast will be removing functionality that allows customers to schedule X1 DVR recordings remotely from mobile devices while they pursue an appeal: TiVo Notches Win in ITC Patent Battle with Comcast TiVo shares rise as ITC issues ‘limited exclusion order’ prohibiting importation of certain DVR hardware and software By Jeff Baumgartner, Multichannel News - November 21, 2017 http://www.multichannel.com/news/content/tivo-notches-win-itc-patent-battle-comcast/416736quote:TiVo shares rose more than 10% in after-hours trading Tuesday after the International Trade Commission handed down a final ruling finding that Comcast had violated two TiVo patents. According to the notice posted today https://www.usitc.gov/secretary/fed_reg_notices/337/337-1001_notice11212017sgl.pdf , the ITC, following its investigation, has issued a “limited exclusion order prohibiting the importation of certain digital video receivers and hardware and software components” and had “issued cease and desist orders…directed to the Comcast respondents. The investigation is terminated.” In addition to Comcast, other respondents in the ITC case include set-top suppliers such as Technicolor, Arris and Pace Ltd. (Arris acquired U.K.-based Pace in January 2016). “Rovi is pleased the International Trade Commission issued its final ruling in our favor and found that two Rovi patents are valid and infringed by Comcast’s X1 products, and issued an exclusion order that bans Comcast from importing and selling X1 devices that infringe our valuable intellectual property,” Rovi, a TiVo company, said in a statement. “Today’s Commission Opinion reinforces the need for Comcast to take the necessary licenses to our IP.” : Comcast issued this statement: “We respectfully disagree with the ITC’s decision in this matter. In fact, Rovi has never disputed that Comcast or its predecessors independently developed our X1 platform and our cloud- and app-based technology. While we believe the ITC reached the wrong decision, we will remove this feature from those offered to our subscribers while we pursue an appeal.” The feature Comcast is referring to is functionality that lets video customers schedule DVR recordings remotely from mobile devices that they would watch later via the set-top box. ...Also on Bloomberg News: https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-11-21/tivo-wins-u-s-trade-case-against-comcast-in-royalty-fight EDIT: Karl has a news item up on this now: https://www.dslreports.com/shownews/Comcast-Loses-Patent-Battle-Against-TiVO-140770

I just heard a brand new radio commercial for the new Xfinity X1 cable box on local radio station 94.1 WIP Sports radio. But like others have said its currently only available for new residents and customers :( I am a long time Triple Play customer and I wonder if I called up and complained if I could get comcast to hook me up with a few X1 boxes? My guess not very likely :( But the good news is at least its here for new customers so maybe spring or summer 2013 it will be available for the rest of the Triple Play customers. If anyone here in Philly gets it maybe you can give us a nice review with some photos and video :)

[Comcast Equip] Odd Question.. Can i mix iGuide and X1 on the same accuont?

I am flight crew, and want to put a slingbox in.. and i'm not sure how it'll work with X1. I'm willing to pay for another box, but just need to know before I do.. If the X1 box does not work well (and i'm assuming it will not due to the laggy interface), Can I just add an old iGuide box? There's a few channels I cannot access through the website and that would be a perfect solution.
