im used to tech 'scripts' that you gotta go through to troubleshoot but this online thing seems to be a robot. anyone confirm? i asked if i could place an order then schedule a few weeks out and the answer it gave was generic like 'we have to check the schedule for times' um no. the answer would be sure we can do it anytime or no that isnt possible, you take the times we give you.

So, let me put it out there at it is still a 1000x better than the old dvr stb. But, I am having some annoying issues. 1. When I change channels the audio is out of sync or skips. It takes 5 minutes or so before it fixes itself. 2. When I record a show, the audio is out of sync or skips for the entire recording. The video also randomly pixelates in different places through out the entire recording. 3. If I pause a recording for an extended period of time and then resume it, it will start playing from the beginning. 4. If a pause live tv for an extended period of time and then resume it, it gets confused and then changes channels. Anyone else seeing these issues? How can I get these fixed?

[Connection] Comcast HD pixelation - Signal Level, SNR with Cisco RNG200N

Hello: I am having intermittent pixelation effects, most notably (but not exclusively) on one channel (811 on our cable system). It seems to be worse when the outside temperature is colder, which led me to suspect excessive signal level. We launched a service call, and the tech did indeed identify an excessive signal level. I had a 4-way drop amp (with a net 7dB of gain in each leg). He told me that gain was not required, removed it, and installed a passive 4-way splitter in its place. That should have dropped the overall signal by ~ 14 dB... After replacing the split, he measured the signal at the farthest drop, and deemed it was fine. Things seemed OK for a day or two (maybe coincidence since the condition is intermittent), but then it was back again. Thanks to the expertise in this forum, I learned how to invoke the diagnostic mode of the RNG200N [Select & Info buttons concurrently]. When I checked the RF properties of the suspect channel (was not bad at that moment), the level was -5 dBmV, and the SNR was toggling between 33 and 34 dB. The level seems OK, but the SNR is perhaps borderline. At least, I now have a benchmark to check against when the problem returns (or do I?, see below) Here's the odd thing -- I looked at a variety of channels, expecting to at least see a roll-off across the broader frequency range. What I found however, was surprising because I got the exact same readings no matter what channel I was tuned to. Even stranger is the fact that the level, SNR, and frequency, is identical for every channel that I look at (QAM-256, -5 dBmV, 33 dB SNR, and 327 MHz). This makes no sense to me. Does the RNG200N always report diagnostics for only one channel regardless of which channel you are tuned to??? I know it is possible for multiple channels to share the same carrier, but these are HD channels so only two should fit, besides, I tried lots of different channels intentionally trying to find another frequency to no avail. How can I see performance across frequency in order to help track down my intermittent pixelation on a select few channels? Or, am I even measuring the relevant performance numbers for my troubled channel 811? -Thanks Tom

[Cust Svc] Fantastic Comcast Customer Service Experience

Yeah, right. Made you look :) It will be interesting to see how many UNIQS this gets. Anyway... I've found it is actually getting worse. Used to be there was a 50/50 shot at getting someone who had a clue. I think those reps are extinct- if not, they are certainly on the endangered species list. Can't tell you the last time I got someone who knew at least as much as I. The best reps now are in the Retention department, and even they are slipping. Or lying. I'm not sure which. The last few times I've called to get my promo price extended or modified, I was told one thing, and another happened. I always asked them, "Okay, so NOTHING I have is changing, just the price, right?" And they always say, "That is correct". Last year, the guy removed Blast without telling me. This year, the lady removed one of my DVRs without telling me. In each case, I had to call back and get it corrected, with the associated price increase ($10 and ~$20). The "President" people (or whatever they are called- I forget) are just really nice message takers. They used to be able to fix things. That new guy they hired to fix things should have his title changed to, "Chief Apologist Officer". I am happy and very lucky to have an inside contact who can get tech problems repaired for me. I don't know how anyone else gets difficult tech problems fixed.

[Cust Svc] Pathetic Customer Experience/Service

I rec'd my most recent bill on 7/22 after having had a TON of issues with 2 DTA's I have. Not only were they once free, now I pay for them and they stopped working. In trying to get COMCAST to replace their bad equipment, they nearly tripled my most recent bill with all sorts of charges. A normal, $75.12 cable bill came in at $191.96. I called customer service on 7/22 and was magically transferred to some other country for support -- and after nearly 2 hours on the phone, still could not get the billing resolved. I posted in the DIRECT forum here on 7/23 -- and the great service continued -- as of today, 8/12, Comcast has seen fit to not reply once to my original post and that post is now about to move to page 3. Since I see posts from 7/12 have still gone unanswered as well, my expectation to get any help thru this forum is next to hopeless. I know it won't happen. After another 4 calls during the ensuing days, I was given 2 different reference #'s that things were taken care of. And on 7/31, I was told my bill was finally the correct amount (I don't want online bill access). So I paid my bill via credit card -- only to check today to find out that Comcast still shows me with a balance due on my account. I'm sick of this. I'm sick of Comcast. I suppose this is more of a rant -- companies like this shouldn't exist and deserve no one's business. Customer service outsourced to another country and unhelpful reps. I was told a supervisor will call me back. I doubt it. Comcast will be getting my equipment back soon -- Comcast, you don't deserve my business. It's no wonder you were in the news AGAIN with another horrible customer experience recorded for posterity. You suck.

[VOD] STB not saving a free movie

Is anyone else having a problem with their STB not saving a movie ? I have the DCT-700 connected directly to my TV set, and tried saving the TCM free movie "Nicholas and Alexandra" for watching later. I stopped it about 5 minutes into it (long movie) and it did NOT appear in the 'saved' program area. This happened a couple of years ago but I forgot what the solution was. I *do* know it did NOT require a service call. Thanks for any help. EDIT: Finally got it to work. Mods: feel free to delete post. -- Please support Great Lakes Bengal Rescue, a 501c3 charity. Foster homes are urgently needed for the beautiful Bengal cats in rescue.

reading this http://www.multichannel.com/news/transactions/comcasttwc-extend-merger-end-date-august/387418 I had to google "court challenge to the FCC's protective order" to see what the article was talking about and found this http://consumerist.com/2014/11/21/court-bars-fcc-from-diclosing-how-much-comcast-directv-pay-broadcasters/ They will keep saying they are just passing on the fees they are being charged while filing for ridiculous profits I guess.

[X1-X2] Quick question about the new XR5 remote

I've been thinking about buying the new XR5 remote to replace my XR2 remotes just for the TV Input button. However, in my living room I have my cable wired up through my A/V receiver (and the XR2 remote controls the volume on it just fine). My question is whether the TV Input button can be configured to control the inputs on the receiver or only on the TV. I haven't been able to find any information about this on Comcast's website. Does anyone have any experience with this?

While Comcast has avoided having the carriage agreement renewal conflicts and blackouts that many other pay TV providers have gone through lately (most likely because of its huge number of TV subscribers compared to the others), that may soon be coming to an end, with a potential "Clash of the Titans" scenario possibly occurring by the end of June: Discovery Shifts Shark Week Move of Popular Block Could Increase Leverage With Comcast By Mike Farrell, Multichannel News - February 2, 2015 http://www.multichannel.com/news/cable-operators/discovery-shifts-shark-week/387550 and Discovery CEO "Hopeful" on Comcast Carriage Talks, Plans U.S. Direct-to-Consumer Service Launch By Georg Szalai, The Hollywood Reporter - February 19, 2015 http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/discovery-ceo-hopeful-comcast-carriage-775260 quote:Discovery Communications CEO David Zaslav said Thursday that he was "hopeful" that Comcast would "negotiate in good faith" as a carriage deal between the companies is coming up for renewal and signaled plans to launch one or more direct-to-consumer over-the-top services in the U.S. "Comcast announced last year that our deal with them is up at the end of June," he said on Discovery's fourth-quarter earnings conference call. "As we all know, Comcast is the largest cable company, a key platform for any independent programmer, of which Discovery is the largest. With our deal coming up, we are hopeful that Comcast will negotiate in good faith, like all of our other TV distributors have over the last several years." Zaslav has repeatedly expressed concern that Comcast with its planned acquisition of Time Warner Cable could gain too much leverage over cable networks groups, saying it "raises some real issues." &nbsp I guess we can look for Discovery Communications' networks to all be listed on this Comcast webpage starting in May: Upcoming Contract Renewals http://xfinity.comcast.net/learn/programming/ EDIT: Discovery Communications' U.S. networks include such popular ones as Discovery Channel, Science, TLC, Animal Planet, Oprah Winfrey Network, Discovery Family, American Heroes Channel, Investigation Discovery, Velocity, and Destination America: http://media.corporate.discovery.com.s3.amazonaws.com/uploads/pdf/_globe_2014_q2_ataglance_final_web.pdf

I just heard a brand new radio commercial for the new Xfinity X1 cable box on local radio station 94.1 WIP Sports radio. But like others have said its currently only available for new residents and customers :( I am a long time Triple Play customer and I wonder if I called up and complained if I could get comcast to hook me up with a few X1 boxes? My guess not very likely :( But the good news is at least its here for new customers so maybe spring or summer 2013 it will be available for the rest of the Triple Play customers. If anyone here in Philly gets it maybe you can give us a nice review with some photos and video :)

I have Internet + Basic/HBO and HBO Go worked a few days ago, but now when I log in, select Comcast, redirect to Comcast, log in with my Comcast account, it says "We're sorry. We cannot process your order at this time. A subscription is required to view this program. Please call 1-800-COMCAST for assistance. Ref code ERR-36895 when calling." I called yesterday, they said 24 hours somebody would call me back, but it's been more than that, and it still doesn't work, and nobody has called me back. Way to go, once again, Comcast.

"During a recent review of your account, we found that you are not being charged for one or more of the following: Additional Outlets, DTA equipment, or the High Definition Technology service that you are using with the services to which you currently subscribe. Effective with your next bill, you will be billed $19.90 for these services plus applicable taxes and fees." WHAT?! We currently pay for basic Internet and cable TV, one broken SD settop box and two CableCards. Is anyone else getting these letters? Between this and the likelyhood of service deterioration after Comcast spins off their Michigan operations I'm about to lose my argument to avoid AT&T U-verse. Haven't called Comcast yet, trying to figure out what they're talking about first.

[Comcast Equip] Cisco thinking of getting out of the set-top box business?

Don't know how much to trust the NY Post, but here is their article on Cisco thinking of getting out of the set-top box business: Cisco thinking out of the set-top box biz NY Post - February 20, 2012 http://www.nypost.com/p/news/business/cisco_thinking_out_of_the_set_top_cjsQHGTCpO3DKevYzs7ysI#ixzz1mxCWOYew "After six years, Cisco is looking to switch off its Scientific-Atlanta cable set-top box business, The Post has learned. The Internet equipment maker, which in 2006 paid close to $7 billion for the tech firm, has put the company on the block as margins in that business have come under pressure, according to a source following the situation. “I know Cisco is out looking to sell Scientific-Atlanta,” the source said. A Cisco spokeswoman declined to comment. Much has changed in the set-top box business since Cisco acquired S-A, most of all the streaming of Internet content and the race to introduce video on multiple platforms. Arguably, the set-top box is becoming outdated. The most likely buyers are private equity firms, who often look to pay reasonably-low purchase multiples for mature businesses which they can use as cash cows, another source said. Microsoft had an interest in 2006, a source said, but much has changed in five years. Cisco has said it’s moving from set-top boxes to Videoscape, a product built on technology gained from Scientific-Atlanta that allows media companies to deliver content through the cloud to smart phones and tablets. In a public filing, Cisco said its key manufacturing facilities for Scientific-Atlanta’s products are located in Juarez, Mexico, and in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2011, it entered into an agreement to sell them to one of its contract manufacturers. Cisco closed trading Friday at $20.29 a share, up more than 12 percent this year after a rough 2011 that saw its shares lose roughly 8 percent of their value."

I just received an email today about the ability to watch ALL of my Xfinity channels on my iPhone, iPad, Laptop, etc now rather than just a select 20-30 from the old Xfinity TV app. However, what is the purpose of only allowing it on Comcast Wifi? I can understand it may be convenient for kids to watch TV shows on their iPad or iPhone, but as an adult, I'm going to watch TV on my TV...and if I'm going to stream it on my iPhone on WiFi, I would like the ability to watch it on WiFi wherever I'm at...Comcast's network or not.

[HD] Get Ready for "Ultra-HDTV"

While Comcast is still charging us an "HD Technology" fee, it looks like DirecTV is already planning for "Ultra-HDTV": DirecTV planning for Ultra HDTV Advanced Television - March 15, 2012 http://advanced-television.com/index.php/2012/03/15/directv-planning-for-u-hdtv/ "US pay-TV giant DirecTV will adopt Ultra-HDTV. DirecTV is already planning its future spectrum needs in readiness for U-HDTV. Philip Goswitz, DirecTV’s SVP/Space and Communications/R&D, speaking at the Satellite 2012 event in Washington, said “4,000 and 8,000-line services are great for the satellite industry, and will ensure that satellite broadcasting continues to distinguish itself for image quality of service. We see this as a key strategic advantage for us.”" : While Goswitz did not say when 4,000-line services would start, and it is fair to say that there is still a great deal to be done on compression and other enabling technologies in order to bring these super high-resolution images into viewers’ homes, it is nevertheless clear that DirecTV wants to see its lead maintained over terrestrial TV, cable and DSL-type delivery services, and Goswitz sees satellite as maintaining that technological edge. Japan’s planned introduction of Ultra-HDTV is scheduled for 2020, and will use Ka-band, a largely unused set of frequencies." Geez - I don't think I want to know what Comcast would charge as a "U-HD Technology" fee then! :)
